We have been informed that offenders' families or loved ones are receiving scam phone calls from someone impersonating a Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) case manager. The caller requests money via Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App to cover the cost of an ankle monitor and other equipment for pending release, falsely claiming that the department will release their loved one once the amount is paid in full.
Please be aware that the CDOC will never request payment or transfer of funds through any mobile applications such as Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App.
If you receive such a call, do not send any money or provide any personal information. Please collect as many details as possible from the caller (name, return phone number, etc) and report the incident to Constituent Services by email at cdoc@state.co.us
