Buena Vista Correctional Complex

The Buena Vista Correctional Complex is comprised of three separate facilities – Buena Vista Correctional Facility (BVCF), Buena Vista Minimum Center (BVMC) and Transitional Work Center (TWC). The Buena Vista Correctional Facility was opened in 1892 under the name of Colorado State Reformatory. The Buena Vista Minimum Center was opened in 1999. The Transitional Work Center was opened in 1991 and housed inmates under a boot camp like program named Colorado Correctional Alternative Program until 2010. The Transitional Work Center opened in 2019.

BVCF has a capacity of 934 inmates at the medium and close custody levels. BVMC has a capacity of 300 inmates at the minimum restrictive custody level. TWC has a capacity of 75 inmates at the minimum and minimum restrictive custody levels.

Visiting Days and Hours

Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm.

BVMC: Sunday and Monday from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm.

Completed applications should be mailed into the facility at P.O. Box 2017 Buena Vista, CO 81211 or by email to doc_bvcc_visiting@state.co.us

Who to contact if visiting has been denied

If the denial reason is something the visitor can prove is no longer a valid reason for denial they can resubmit an application as stated above with the required documents. If the reason for denial is still in effect the prospective visitor can ask for reconsideration from Warden Lengerich for visit approval at P.O. Box 2017 Buena Vista, CO 81211.
